Recommended: Missy Elliott (feat. Lamb) “I’m Better”
Missy Elliott is a living legend. Not only is she an amazing artist and dancer in her own right, she has written and produced a seemingly endless sting of hits for other entertainers, including Aaliyah, Janet Jackson, Busta Rhymes, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Mary J. Blige, Beyoncé and Madonna.
2017 marks her to the charts with a brand new single and video.
A long absence from the music scene
For many years, Elliott was one of the most prolific songwriters in the industry. All that changed when she was diagnosed with the autoimmune disorder Graves Disease more than a decade ago.
All in all, it’s been twelve years since she has released a full length album. However, she’s release one song per year over the last three years.
There are persistent whispers that she has completed more than one unreleased album. Elliott is a perfectionist and isn’t satisfied unless she is certain that her work will dominate the charts. It remains to be seen how much of her music she is willing to share with her listeners.
New single and video release
The latest release is a track called “I’m Better” featuring her longtime collaborator Lamb. Everything from the seamless minimalist song production to the dazzling visuals on display in the official video showcase Elliott’s infinite creativity.
The video is choreographed by Elliott and the incomparable Sean Bankhead, the video is already inspiring YouTubers to bust their best moves. She co-directed the video with Dave Meyers who also did the legendary video for her track “Get Your Freak On”.
What’s also intriguing is that after an extended absence Elliott can return to the game as an innovator which is a testament to her talent and her ability to understand and respond to cultural trends. Her new track is lit and we hope to hear more from her in the near future.
